China's needle coke market has seen a rebound in 2024. The robust growth in the new energy vehicle sector has driven significant increases in the production of lithium-ion batteries and lithium-ion anode materials, becoming the main driver of the recovery of China's needle coke industry in the first half of the year. Meanwhile, the steel-used carbon segment remains a solid foundation for the development of China's needle coke industry. Additionally, despite the unfavorable fluctuations in the steel market this year, electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plants, leveraging their advantages of light inventory of raw materials and increased scrap steel supply, have maintained higher profits than long-process steel plants for seven consecutive months—an unprecedented feat in nearly 20 years—prompting many long-process steel plants to accelerate their EAF projects.
